Students will learn the five (5) Historical themes of Drug Use. They will learn the History of Psychoactive Drugs through the following periods:
I. Prehistory & the Neolithic Period
II. Ancient Civilizations
III. Middle Ages
IV. Renaissance and the Age of Discovery
V. Age of Enlightenment / Early Industrial Revolution
Period Students will also be introduced to the Definition and Classification of Psychoactive drugs: Uppers, Downers, All Arounders (psychedelics), inhalants, anabolic steroids, synthetic drugs, sports drugs.
A brief overview of psychiatric medications and other addictions (compulsive behaviors) will also be explored.
