This course provides an overview of case management. Emphasis is placed on:
- Treatment Planning
- Service Coordinator Documentation
- Planning for Relapse Prevention
- Discharge Aftercare (Continuum of Care)
Service-related Skills include:
- Listening and responding
- Bringing up difficult issues
- Addressing and disarming anger
- Assessing client strengths and weaknesses
Students begin to understand how they are to respect and honor cultural diversity in a clinical environment
Legal and ethical factors learned in previous sessions are reviewed, reflected upon, and practiced in this case management and documentation course to create stronger leaders and counselors
Students also learn how to challenge clients, help them to identify distortions in thinking, and how they can help a client to develop prosocial attitudes, beliefs, behaviors
Building a Treatment Plans or a Behavior Change Plans requires knowledge of S.M.A.R.T. Goals, Objectives, and Tasks that fosters recovery and relapse prevention. Students learn these skills in class and through instructor/student counseling sessions (via phone or a virtual meeting platform)
