Cfhp-19 Co-Occurring Disorders
(45-hours)



This class helps the student to understand the inter-play between mental health and substance abuse and how to treat both problems with the goal of returning the individual to optimal functioning.


Common Co-occurring Disorders reviewed in this class are:

  • Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders
  • Personality Disorders (Borderline, Narcissistic and Antisocial Personality Disorder)
  • Cognitive disorders due to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and
  • Neurocognitive Functions brought on by Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease


The SAMHSA Publication TIP 42 is utilized as the Text book for this Module.

  • Part I and Part II (Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders) are discussed, and
  • Part III (provides an IC&RC Exam Review) to revisit all that was learned by the student in this module​
